12th in strikeouts (just seems like the Giants strike out more than all other MLB clubs)
6th in bases on balls
On the pitching side
17th in runs surrendered
10th in ERA
1st in fewest homer runs surrendered (Oracle Park factor)
13th in fewest bases on balls surrendered
18th in WHIP
Given that only 1 NL player hit over .300 and five others hit over .290, a .231 batting average is not horrible. Chapman did have a .770 OPS and hit 21 HRs. And, Bailey drove in as many runs as Jung Hoo Lee. And, Bailey's defense is elite. However, the infield, offensively, has potential to be one of the strongest in MLB.
The streakiness may need be quite apparant in the numbers, but, indeed, that was the story of the 2025 Giants--when they were good, they were pennant contenders, when they were bad, move over Rockies and White Sox. The pieces are potentially present for a contending team.
Will a managerial change make a difference?
Only time will tell. Maybe, Schumaker, Huntley, or Albernaz can be the key.
But, for Buster, the honeymoon may be coming to a close.
And the stability that marked the franchise--4 managers in 34 season--may be a by-gone baseball oddity like complete games, contact hitters, and stable pitching staffs.
Ha. I still think that idea had some merit. They had nothing to lose. I bet he'd have done better than Birdsong or Teng. Maybe Eldridge should be a two-way player.
Hopefully, Pat Burrell will soon be gone. The Giants have many problems, to be sure. They pretty much need to rebuild the bullpen and find or groom a closer. They need three more reliable starters. Someone who can play LF. And, they need a daily line-up that hits with more consistency. What did Matt Chapman hit? .220-something. Unacceptable. Bailey? Lower than that. Unacceptable. Yes, its a "pitchers' park." But that doesn't apply ti hitting singles. Being a bit more aggressive. Not watching another third strike go by as you stand there like a house on the road. Find a hitting coach who can help. And a manager that is not another re-tread.
Indeed, the Giants defined mediocrity.
But, by far, not the worst offensive team in MLB.

at least they didn't try to turn Joey Lucchesi into a starter
