Hi! My name is Alex and I write the “Sporadic Sentinel.” I really enjoy the writing prompt from Substack is “write about the benefits of reading your publication.”

Uhhh….. because I like to write and I have unique thoughts on stuff.

Anyway, the Sporadic Sentinel is exactly that, writing done sporadically but still in a newspaper-type format. As for the origin of that name…

In my very first high school journalism class, students were required to make a newspaper.  Since most newspapers are called "The Daily Something," I realized that if I were actually in charge of a newspaper it would most certainly not be a Daily or a Weekly.  And most newspapers are called the "Chronicle" or the "Journal" or the "Gazette" and I wanted something with a little bite.  Thus, the "Sporadic Sentinel" had its first issue... and 20+ years later, the "Sporadic" came back.

Living up to its name, the Sporadic will publish when it's appropriate.

I also wrote a book, which you can get here. It’s about the longest winning streak in MLB history, 26 games by the 1916 New York Giants. It had never been truly written about before, so I did it.

Now for the generic template that Substack wrote, which includes lots of the nuts and bolts of how to read this going forward…
